Just a few things about me:
Keili Fernando is a singer-songwriter, photographer, and media producer from Southern California.
Growing up, her grandmother referred to her as a “canary” because she often sang Filipino folk tunes when she was little. Her music pathway kicked off when Keili was 13. She became known as "the girl with the acoustic guitar" and played Motown classics and songs by Peter, Paul and Mary. With her playful rhythms and picturesque lyrics, she has performed at weddings, the Orange County Fair, the San Diego County Fair, Queen Bee's in San Diego, and in Dublin, Ireland. She released her first single, "Little Surprises," in 2012 and her second single, "Notice Me," in 2014. In Summer 2017, Keili released two singles from her debut album, "Cardboard Spaceship" and "Love of Mine."
While she was in high school, she took ROP Photography and received the Rising Star Award for her work. She saw the need for promotional video content in her school's arts conservatory, so she decided to take it on herself to make this happen. Using her mom's old camcorder, she filmed and edited the school's concerts, performances, and events. In college, she majored in Communication and joined UCSD's Triton Television as the Director of External Affairs, where she furthered her skill set. Her coursework included documentary-style filmmaking, linear editing, and production management. As a student, she interned for Allied Integrated Marketing under the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Studios account and La Jolla Playhouse. At Allied, she learned about grassroots marketing and publicity for the film industry; she ultimately was an onsite manager for a Comic-Con San Diego activation. At La Jolla Playhouse, Keili continued to make content for their social media with a series of videos called #KeepingUpWithKeili on Instagram.
After Keili graduated from UCSD with a BA in Communication and a minor in Theatre, she continued to freelance as a producer and work in administrative marketing positions. Today, she is working on her debut album, 411, and is often found at local coffee shops writing a new tune or riding her bike around town.
- When I go to potlucks, I'm guilty of usually bringing my homemade spinach artichoke dip or double chocolate brownies depending on if I feel sweet or savory.
- When my parents were picking my name, they found out that "Keli" was my mom's name in Hawaiian, but my dad decided to put in an extra "i" to make it more unique.
- My first camera was a Barbie sticker camera when I was 4-years-old.
